JBTV Performance airing tonight in Chicago on WJYS Ch. 62 at 11 PM CDT.
Sometimes you just know. Ya know?
Back in 2009, I fell in love (at first sight) with a band from Atlanta called Death on Two Wheels (DO2W). We had them out for a showcase at Angels & Kings, as a favor to some friends of ours. Wasn’t sure what to expect and left blown away and wondering where these dudes had been all my life!
Perhaps it was the lack of expectation that really let me dig DO2W?
I know that was the case for JBTV management when I pitched the band in a booking meeting last May. They hadn’t heard of them. They weren’t interested.
“But it’s like the Doors and Led Zeppelin and Pearl Jam and Sabbath,” I barely took a breath. “And their singer, Trae? I always think his head is about to explode. You gotta see this guy feel the music.”
After some vivid back and forth and a few “trust me’s,” I wagered my future booking rights on this band. Still, our staff (whom I love) wasn’t exactly eager to spend a Sunday in the studio shooting some Southern strangers. But we got it done.
So now… it’s the only time I’ll ever say “I told ya so,” but 5 months later, the entire JBTV crew has a shared favorite – Death on Two Wheels from Atlanta, Georgia.
I’m just as happy to say that DO2W is our featured in-studio guest this week on JBTV. And I’m just as eager to hear what you think. Cuz sometimes you just know. Ya know?
